These corns were literally growing right next to each other. Is it possible these are the same strain? I thought I planted only one type, but maybe I actually used two different seed envelopes. I'm not sure.
The one with straight rows did have some corn larvae that I cut off.

Two different varieties. Kernel color is a classic genetic trait.
The one on the left is shoe peg variety.
Corn needs quite a few plants to pollinate successfully.
That said, we planted ornamental corn next to sweet corn. It was a fiasco! Corn WILL cross pollinate.
