SIBLEY, Iowa – The application window for the 2026 Garden Academy training cohort is open through Aug. 14.
Iowans wishing to become Iowa Master Gardener volunteers choose a county to apply with, complete the 10-week online Garden Academy training, and attend in-person volunteer orientation organized by the county office. After completing Garden Academy and the in-person orientation, trainees put their knowledge to work with a 40-hour internship in their designated training county.
Counties are seeking participants of all backgrounds and experience levels who desire to grow their horticulture knowledge and serve their communities.

As part of the training, four in-person sessions are offered to give current trainees and the public a chance to dig deeper into hands-on horticulture. While attendance isn’t required, these sessions provide valuable opportunities to explore gardening topics through interactive learning and real-world demonstrations.
