TULSA, Okla. –
With temperatures expected to hover near 100 degrees, the Tulsa Botanic Garden is offering a way to enjoy a summer party without spending the evening outside.
The Garden will close out its three-part summer fundraiser series Friday, Aug. 14, with Summer Soirée: 70’s Funk, a 21-and-older disco-themed event from 6 to 9 p.m. inside the air-conditioned Mabee Grange.
Guests are encouraged to arrive dressed in 1970s-inspired flares, platform shoes and other disco-era fashions.
DJ Bill & The Dance Machine will provide a mix of funk and soul for the evening, which will also feature dinner, drinks and hands-on activities.
Guests can make their own fresh-flower crowns, paint pet rocks and take an after-hours horticulture tour highlighting some of the Garden’s more unusual plants.
The pet rock activity puts a nostalgic spin on the evening. Pet rocks became a popular fad in the mid-1970s, and guests will have a chance to recreate the trend while enjoying the dance floor.
Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner and two drinks. Proceeds support the Tulsa Botanic Garden’s programs and grounds.
The event is presented by Hotel Indigo Tulsa Downtown.
Organizers say the evening is designed to be more than a themed party, giving guests an opportunity to support the Garden while enjoying an indoor summer night away from the heat.
