CASTLEDERG’S Team Hope CEO Deborah Lowry is preparing to once again open her home to the local community as she hosts a Garden Party in aid of the charity’s work with children and families affected by poverty.
The event will take place at Ms Lowry’s home in Castlederg on Friday, September 4, with everyone welcome to call in for an afternoon of live music, refreshments, garden games and a raffle.
Last year’s Garden Party received tremendous support from the local community, raising more than £4,000 for Team Hope and its work across Africa.
This year’s event holds an even greater significance for Ms Lowry following a recent visit to Burundi, where she saw first-hand the difference that support from communities in Tyrone and across Ireland is making to families living in poverty.

Team Hope is best known for its Christmas Shoebox Appeal, through which communities across the island send gifts and messages of hope to children who may otherwise receive nothing. However, the charity also supports longer-term projects designed to help families build sustainable and brighter futures.
During her visit to Burundi, Ms Lowry witnessed the impact of one such project, meeting families who have benefited from Team Hope-supported community savings groups.
Speaking ahead of this year’s Garden Party, she said her experience in Burundi had made the event particularly meaningful.
“Last year’s Garden Party was so wonderfully supported by the local community, raising more than £4,000 for Team Hope’s work,” she said.
“Since then, I’ve had the privilege of visiting Burundi, where I saw first-hand the difference that generosity from people here at home is making to children and families.
“It has made this year’s event even more special to me.”
The Garden Party will be a relaxed community occasion, with people encouraged to drop in during the afternoon, whether to enjoy the entertainment and activities or simply to have a cup of tea and a chat.

Ms Lowry is hoping the community will once again get behind the event and help raise further funds for Team Hope’s work.
“Everyone is very welcome to call in, even if it’s just for a cup of tea and a chat,” she added.
Deborah’s Garden Party will take place on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 2pm to 7pm at “Inuk Shuk”, 30 Lurganbuoy Road, Castlederg, BT81 7HT.
The afternoon will include live music from Macdara O’Dwyer, refreshments, garden games and a grand raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses, with plenty of fun for all the family.
Those unable to attend can still support Deborah’s Tea Party by making a donation through Team Hope’s Tea Party campaign.
