Hi everyone!

I recently got into gardening but I have ADHD and never know if a hyperfixation will last or not. For that reason, as well as the fact that I’m a student, I initially cheaped out on a pot and just drilled holes into a cheap container while I figured out if I wanted to invest further in this hobby. I’m quite enjoying it now though and my coriander plants have transformed into little seedlings!!

I went and got a better UV resistant planter today and am just wanting some advice on changing them over. I’m completely new to gardening so ELI5 please.

Should I wait for them to grow a bit more or change the pot now? Should I re-plant them all into the new pot or will some have to go? If I don’t plant them all, how do I choose which ones I’m keeping? Do I keep the same potting mix? There’s quite a lot of potting mix in the old container and I don’t want it all to go to waste.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks so much!!

Best to wait til after they have sprouted more leaves. Those are essentially baby leaves, enough to supplement the root system but not enough to plant out yet. They need their true leaves to sprout (second set of bigger leaves) which will be bigger and start looking more like coriander.

Give them a couple more weeks for more leaves to sprout then they’ll be ready to move up into pots. Just make sure to be gentle when teasing them apart to minimise tearing the roots and hold by a leaf when doing it. Better to tear a leaf than accidentally crush the stem.
