Found a bunch of these trees while hiking to do some pond fishing. The plant identifier thingy I use suggests it's a persimmon with 70% confidence but I'd like to get a human second opinion. Basically, I just want to be assured that I'm not gonna end up meeting Hades if I bite into one.
Location: Central South Texas.

Yes!! Yummy jam made from them. They my fave and it’s the season!
I just showed my wife this post and she grabbed my flashlight and told me she is bringing them in for me to eat (she also said not to eat the skin, if I don’t post with an update, assume I am dead)
EDIT: I AM ALIVE. They taste like.. molases? Not citrus-y or like a berry. I like it. 10/10 will eat again, I can see this being a good jelly or syrup.
