First photo is the before that was taken last summer. We got a quote for $5000 from a landscaper so we decided to go the DIY route and this project only cost us $500 in the end. We ripped out the old plants and wood chips. Planted grass. Power washed the sidewalk. Added dirt to fix the grading around the house. (We already had the border bricks. They were previously around an old tree in the backyard that was removed) Added evergreens and river rock to finish it off, and are very pleased with the results!

    I’m not a professional but my general understanding is that rocks trap heat in a way that is harmful to plants. So river rocks aren’t great for landscaping of this nature, whereas something like mulch would be better.
