Hey everyone, I could really use some advice on saving this plant, Rex begonia I think. It’s a very important gift from someone.
I recently brought it home from a different city. I transported it carefully with the rootball entirely intact inside a ziplock bag. Once I got back, I didn't disturb the rootball at all, I just slip-potted it directly into a new pot and filled in the gaps with extra soil.
There are two stems that originally had 5 leaves total. Since repotting:
3 leaves have already perished completely.
1 leaf is almost dead.
The last leaf is now starting to wilt and crisp away at the edges.
Maybe the ziplock transport shock it too much, or it is an issue with dropping the intact rootball straight into new soil? Any advice on how to stabilize it and encourage new growth would be hugely appreciated!
P.S: I don’t think humidity is a problem either because i mist once a day, and run a humidifier for major part of the day, and it’s heavy monsoon here anyways.

Begonias hate being moved/repotted. So that could be a factor. I don’t see powdery mildew on your leaves either – you’re good there.

How’s your humidity? If you have it in ambient, you may want to try getting it somewhere where it has more moisture in the air.

  2. Rex are well known for coming back after these events. Try to maintain evenly moist not wet soil. , give it light and some fresh air and wait. It may surprise you.

I put all mine out in the garden in summer in the shade. Some are stumps by then. My plants and I are sick of each other at the end of winter and they are not at their best. They are usually looking amazing in July and we’re back in love when they come inside in the fall again
