LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – TMCO officially launched its new Education Initiative Thursday, Aug. 6, marking the opening of the Prep Academy, the unveiling of the Garden Center, and interactive learning experiences for local partners.
The celebration brought together community leaders, partners, employees, and local organizations to experience the company’s newest investment in education and community engagement.
TMCO purchased the garden center property near 4th and E streets and is renting greenhouse space to the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department, while supporting a childcare center on the site with a nature-focused learning space.
The Prep Academy highlights four pillars of TMCO’s education initiative: nature, wellness, STEM, and community. The company said the center is designed to meet the needs of employees and their children.
“These students become community members, become workforce, and we have immigrants and refugees coming to our country everyday that want jobs and are looking, and the way we can start early childhood education workforce and manufacturing workforce to support those people is really important to us,” said Maddie Gates, TMCO’s Director of Community Impact and Education.
TMCO said the Prep Academy aims to encourage curiosity, learning, and meaningful connections between local industry and the community.
