Tap in with me folks need some feedback. Got this 10” BD cutting in the mail today. Has some dark bruising and some minor dried up black sap. Dark areas don’t feel soft or have any smell. Cut looks good and calloused. Could it be some licks it took from shipping?

I could be wrong but I don’t think the black goo was absent before shipping. How long was it in the mail and was the packaging solid?
Could have gotten hot and humid during transport. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it starts getting mushy.
Just a consequence of being in a confined box for a period of time, common when mailing cactus
Humidity spot. Get it under light and it should scar over. I see tan, so the process has all ready started
It’s bruises from shipping. Don’t stress, let it do its thing and it’ll heal pretty quickly.
Had spots like this and sap all over my melty bridge when I got it, I just stuck a fan on it and held off on watering as much. It all healed up scarred within a couple weeks.
This is bruising. Caused by bumps in shipping. With some time, airflow, and care they will callous over and turn into tan scabs.
If packaging is lacking, this could be blamed on the seller. However sometimes even with the best packaging this stuff can still happen. Sometimes carriers are rough with boxes and there is nothing we can do about that. An insurance claim can be filed with the carrier, if it’s worth trying to prove to them the damage and all the paperwork and on hold phonecalls to the seller then have at it.
Cutting and shipping is extremely hard on any cactus in the best of conditions. I never expect a cut to arrive show quality. I expect sellers to put forth their best effort to package securely but some stuff is just unavoidable. The way I see it you’re purchasing mass and genetics, the asthetics will come with new growth in your care.
