You’ve probably walked over this plant hundreds of times without giving it a second thought.
Plantain—both broadleaf and narrowleaf—is one of those common plants that grows in lawns, gardens, paths, and disturbed areas across much of the country. Most people simply consider it a weed, but it has a long history of use as both a wild edible and a traditional plant remedy.
In this video, I’ll show you how I recognize plantain growing around my property, some of the ways I’ve personally used it over the years, and why learning to identify useful plants around you can be just as valuable as growing something in a garden.
As always, positively identify any wild plant before eating or using it, avoid plants from areas that may have been treated with herbicides or pesticides, and don’t rely on traditional plant uses as a substitute for appropriate medical care.
