WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – A new Pollinator Garden now surrounds the Roswell P. Flower Monument in front of the KeyBank building in downtown Watertown.
The wildflowers, including daisies, zinnias and poppies, are designed to attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, which move pollen between plants.
The garden was set up by the Northern New York Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council. Student members of the organization’s service committee partnered on the effort.
“It was an amazing project we did on the service committee,” said Julia Tontarski, Service Committee Chair of the Youth Philanthropy Council. “A few of us partnered together on the full council, and we made it happen. Most of what we do is behind the scenes, and it’s really great to have something that’s hands-on that we can show to everybody.”
The garden was planted in conjunction with the City of Watertown’s “Adopt a Spot” program.
