After weeks and weeks of warm and dry weather, it’s likely that your patio is looking worse for wear. While it’s great to be able to spend more time outside, spilt food and drinks, more footfall and general wear and tear can wreak havoc on your garden.
He said: “I’m going to show you how to clean it without using any harmful chemicals, especially for the environment and even for your pets. The best thing is you don’t even need a jet wash.”
His “eco-friendly” solution involves using two products you likely already have stored in the cupboard beneath the sink: soda crystals and washing-up liquid.
How to clean your garden patio
Before applying anything to the slabs, remove any persistent weeds. The expert used a trowel to do this, then took a stiff-bristled brush to sweep the patio and remove any remaining dust or debris.
Then start by rinsing the patio with your garden hose, and take a bag of soda crystals and scatter them lightly across the surface. The expert advised ensuring no areas are missed, though there’s no need to use the entire bag.
He continued: “Now you need to apply a little bit of washing up liquid or dish soap onto the area.”
Once again, there’s no need to go overboard — a gentle squeeze is more than enough.
The next step is to scrub the mixture into the patio slabs with a stiff-bristle brush. Begin at one end and gradually work your way across, then leave the solution to “work its magic” for 48 hours.
Finish with a final rinse using the garden hose, and you should find that the stains have been lifted away entirely. The pro continued: “This is eco-friendly, good for the environment and specifically good for your pets.”
