This thing is crazy!! The neighbors left it alone because they wanted to see what would happen – well, it's over 8 feet tall (5'11" husband for scale, no bananas, sorry) with TONS of flowers. They are going to remove it before it seeds but it's pretty awesome to look at in the meantime.

The roots are probably 25 feet deep.
Ouch
Birds love thistle seed and sometimes it’s included in mixed birdseed bags. They are a high energy seed for birds.
That’s a beaut Clark.
Artichokes are a type of thistle and the flowers look really similar, honestly they are really pretty flowers and smell nice IMO, I prefer that than actuall eating artichokes lol.
Your neighbor is a jerk and I dont like them. Paint some roundup on the leaves and kill it before it spreads like the plague it is. And before anyone jumps me about my comment. I’ve been fighting thistles issues for the last few years and morning glory bindweed and the only that is helping is glyphosate unfortunately. And I won’t be able to grow anything but decorative plants in those areas now
I love these and let them grow wherever they’re not going to be a hazard. So many flowers to bring in butterflies then so many pods to attract the goldfinch.
When I just saw the photo I thought that was a child based on the scale. 😂 That is ENORMOUS.
Thistle flowers on their own are so pretty but the rest of the plant is an asshole
