Its what happens when you get your lawn too pristine. Looks like the mower hit one blade of crabgrass and totaled the thing.

Lol mine broke in the exact same way
I had a shitty old Husqvarna I used for a good chunk of my childhood. The powered drive worked for *maybe* a year. My Dad was too cheap to get a new one til I moved out and let me have the Husqy for free (turns out I’m cheap too because I used that for 5 years at my grandparents house).
Later bought my first house, the VERY first time I cut my grass it broke just like your pic. To boot, it broke on the VERY last row of grass the exact INSTANT I was done. Took it as the universe trying to tell me a sign. What that sign is? I do not know

Happened to me with my snow blower. Found the parts in the spring when the snow melted. I use Loctite on them now.

Is the metal actually snapped or did the part where it folds lose the bolt/screw that holds it?

That’s *not* very typical, I’d like to make that point.

Were you mowing the air like Jim Lahey?

I had a yard machine. On the heavy side. The handle broke down lower where it attaches to the frame. Twice. Took it to have it welded both times.

The back side of that motor speaks highly on the lack of care this thing has seen

Yeah my lawn mower did the same thing last summer right before my wife went into labor. That was a fun day

I had a Scott’s fertilizer spreader do something similar. The frame rusted from the inside out.

As a kid I mowed my lawn with an old ass Craftsman from the 70s (this was in the early 90s)You shut it off by flipping a metal flap onto the spark plug. This happened to that mower and dad and I taped a sawed off hockey stick to the handle to hold it together.

If it makes you feel any better my mower wheel fell off last week while mowing in front of a couple neighbors…

Not this specifically, but I broke the rear wheels off the deck on my last one and reattached it with a twisted coat hanger. Got another couple years out of it before retiring it.
