Most new builds (pre 1964-ish) would give an arm and a leg to have such great quality soil on their lawn and the depth of it makes it look like virgin soil! The last house I was in had about a foot then all the shit they hid was under it and the manhole cover nearly in the middle of it. After a few dry days it would literally look like a stale dry sandwich, curling up at the edges and tramlines all the way through it…

You really chose hard mode for your first time! Good job, gardening is super fun and satisfying.

I tried planting a few shrubs on my borders but the ground was hard as rock god knows how you managed to get that much up

You should really be wearing socks. Your shoes are gonna stink!

Also. Get yourself a mattock. It’s like a pickaxe crossed with a spatula – they chomp through soil and loosen it much more easily than a pickaxe.

So nice to see a curve, sick of seeing landing strips in new build gardens.
