The Door County Master Gardeners Association has announced the $300 scholarship winners for the 2026 Master Gardener training course: David Mailand and Tabitha Kelly.
The scholarship selection team was impressed with the candidates’ passion for lifelong learning, desire to expand their gardening skills and dedication to community service.
To be certified as a Master Gardener, candidates must complete the Foundations in Gardening training course offered through the University of Wisconsin-Extension. Enrollment is open through Aug. 24 for the self-paced, research-based online course, which runs Sept. 6 through Dec. 12.
Appropriate for gardeners of all levels, the training course is offered only once per year and has limited capacity. Email [email protected] for more details and registration information.
Once certified, Master Gardeners must complete 10 hours of continuing education and 24 hours of volunteer service annually to maintain their certification.
Evidence of the Master Gardeners’ passion and expertise can be seen throughout the county via their educational display gardens at The Garden Door and numerous community outreach projects at local organizations like Birch Creek Music Performance Center, the Heritage Garden at Heritage Village and the Bird and Butterfly Garden at Crossroads at Big Creek. The Master Gardeners impact Door County through community service, educational programming and environmental stewardship.
