Greenpoint Tiny House With Shared Garden, Tin Ceilings Asks $2,895 a Month

Set in the garden of a 19th century building in Greenpoint, this house is petite but comes with tin ceilings, wood floors, and some old moldings. Outside is a patio, plantings, and a koi pond.

In the same family since the 1980s, 67 Huron Street comprises a two-family house facing the street and this rear-lot dwelling. At one time, the former held a grocery on the ground floor, an old tax photo shows.

A few of the moldings in the tiny house could date from the mid-19th century, although a map of 1898 shows no rear structure. A 1903 i-card shows the floor plan of the main house only but indicates “sheds” in the yard. A 1929 map shows a one-story building at the rear of the property.

With three rooms, the one-story house measures about 350 square feet, according to the listing. Cream-painted walls and newish wood floors run throughout most of it, and there are a total of four windows on three exposures.

Level with the ground, the front door opens to a vestibule. Beyond that is the living room with three doors whose surrounds could be mid-19th century. Under and next to the window is what looks like redundant radiators, one enclosed in a metal cover, and a small fan that appears to go through the wall.

The small kitchen appears recently updated with a wainscot of white brick or stacked white subway tile, an apron sink, open shelving, and about 20 linear inches of counter space. The wide plank floor is painted white.

In the bedroom are two windows and the home’s only closet. The fixtures in the mostly white bathroom are basic, and there is a hexagonal wood mirror and beige tile floor.

The garden, shared with a unit in the main house, appears inviting, with room for seating on the patio and the grass, ringed by shrubbery and vines. “Gardeners are welcome,” although not dogs, the listing says.

There is an “entrance to the street via the patio,” most likely going through a corridor in the street-facing house, which occupies the full 25 foot width of the lot, according to city records.

There is bike storage and laundry service “available with monthly credits.” All utilities are included in the rent.
