A volunteer workday is set for Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the community-driven McKinleyville Botanical Garden in Hiller Park. This garden features plants that attract pollinators and birds. Most of these plants are native and low-maintenance. Workdays are held from 2 to 4 p.m. the second Friday and fourth Sunday of every month, April through October. Rain cancels these events. The McKinleyville Botanical Garden is under the auspices of Parks and Recreation Department at McKinleyville Community Services District. To get there, go west on Hiller Road to the parking lot for Hammond Trail/the soccer field/dog park. The garden is adjacent to the children’s playground. Pictured are monkeyflower, lavender and sulphur buckwheat now growing in the garden.
