Peace lilies have earned their reputation as undemanding indoor plants, typically thriving with minimal care provided they receive occasional watering. Yet as summer approaches, simply watering won’t suffice – relocating them away from windowsills becomes essential for their survival.
While it’s natural to position plants beside windows for adequate light exposure, peace lilies can be particularly delicate, and excessive sunlight can scorch their foliage, resulting in browned and withered flowers.
Craig Wilson, gardening specialist and founder of Gardeners Dream, reveals that peace lilies will prosper if you take a moment to relocate them to a more moisture-rich area within your home.
Craig explained: “Peace lilies need watering, but not nearly as much as you might expect. Normally, it is best to water your peace lily every few days, with the plant even being tolerant to being watered less often if it is kept somewhere humid in the house like the bathroom.”
As tropical specimens that naturally inhabit rainforest floors, peace lilies have evolved to extract moisture directly from warm, humid atmospheric conditions.

Consequently, positioning a peace lily in your bathroom corner, or alternatively in the kitchen, proves far more beneficial, as the moist warmth helps maintain their hydration and vitality, reports the Express.
In their native rainforest environment, peace lilies receive dappled, indirect sunlight filtered through towering tree canopies, which explains why they fare best when placed reasonably close to, but not directly against, a window. Craig said: “It is best not to leave peace lilies by external doors or windows because the plants don’t do well in exposed conditions.”
Excessive sunlight or arid air can hinder a peace lily’s capacity to produce blooms, so taking a moment to relocate them to a spot that more closely mirrors their natural habitat will encourage flowering.

That said, if your bathroom or kitchen lacks the space for a peace lily, there’s no need to fret, as frequently used rooms in the home also tend to generate a reasonable level of humidity.
As people exhale small amounts of moisture when breathing, peace lilies can also thrive in your bedroom or living room.
Where possible, seek out a spot in your home that receives plenty of morning light, as peace lilies favour the gentler rays of the early sun over the harsher glare of the afternoon.
Rooms with east-facing windows typically capture the most sunlight as the sun rises each morning, making them particularly well-suited for housing a peace lily.
By taking just a few moments to position your peace lily in a more suitable location, you significantly increase the likelihood of achieving a more abundant and longer-lasting display of flowers.
