For years I’ve dreamed of creating a beautiful border around my property, and this fall I’m finally going to start making it happen—one affordable plant at a time.
In this video I share my plan while watering my container garden and talk honestly about gardening on a budget, getting older, and choosing plants that will still look beautiful without demanding constant work.
My landscape plan includes:
🌿 Limelight hydrangeas (starting with smaller, more affordable plants)
🌾 Ornamental grasses from divisions my mama is giving me
🍃 Elephant ears grown from bulbs
I also show the ChatGPT landscape renderings that helped me visualize what this project could become. It won’t happen overnight, but that’s okay. Gardens are built one season, one plant, and one dream at a time.
If you’ve ever had to balance your gardening dreams with a realistic budget, this video is for you.
I’d love to know:
What’s one landscape project you’ve been dreaming about?
Thanks for watching and being part of the Patty B. Gardening family!

Good morning, Patty you sure look beautiful!!! I think we’ve all been staying inside where it’s cool.😊😊😊Liz
Your Elephant Ears look awesome! All of those new Limelight Hydrangeas are going to be so beautiful! Ours aren't blooming. This is the first year for them. Maybe they aren't getting enough sun 😢. Love your Caladiums. We didn't get any this year.
We paid $ 35 for our Limelight Hydrangeas. Those Stinkers aren't even blooming. So disappointed.
Good idea with the hydrangea hedge. Getting older will more than likely slow down the gardening. It did for me. I was glad I planned ahead and have foundation evergreens, shrubs, and perennials that require little maintenance.
Looks amazing. Question will you bring the elephant ears indoors when fall arrives or just leave them outside? I have elephant ears in my house I’m at zone 6b and was wondering should I put them outside and inside for the winter.
This is off topic, but your hair always looks so pretty and healthy. That was a good price for the hydrangea that big.
Your elephant ears and pots are looking pretty!
Hi Patty watty doodle all the day!😂 I am delirious from this summer heat in 8a, west TN. I really enjoyed this video! Just love my time with you. Congrats on the two years. Where did the time go!? I feel encouraged by your vids, especially this one. xo
Ohhhh I love the idea if Limelight hedges! Can’t wait to see!!
Your property is beautiful!
It is hot – I’m ready for the fall. Beautiful elephant ears. The caladiums love the heat! That surprised me. 53 is YOUNG!
What a deal on the limelights!!!! It’s like you won the lottery 🙌
I love how much fun you had with this video. I agree not only have our gardens evolved but so have we and the time capsule is priceless 🫶
All the limelight will look AMAZING!!!
Happy 2 years – cheers to us 🥂
That hydrangea hedge is gonna look awesome! Now I wanna go buy more 😂 Do you grow Canna lilies? I’m in northwest Florida on the Alabama line and my cannas are the most reliable things I have! I do deadhead them but it’s easy!
I want some of that grass from mamas too! I have lots of places I could plant it! I also want some of your elephant ears!!! They’re beautiful either way the caladiums! I ordered 10 lime lights too! I only need 100 more! 😂
