I saw this 2m high fuchsia hedge recently (I’m in County Antrim), and would like to have similar in my own garden. I already have some small fuchsias, they die back completely every winter. Surely a hedge like the pic wouldn’t die back every winter would it? Does anyone know what sort of fuchsia this is?

It absolutely will die back, yes. We have these – they are an absolute monster throughout spring/summer (they need trimming VERY regularly to stay in check, ours is currently around 2-3m high where we’ve left it), and loose all leaves/flowers in winter, need cutting back, and then will grow again vigourously in spring. Its likely riccarrtoni – its gorgeous, but takes some keeping under control once at full growth.
Fuchsia magellanica and its varieties ‘Ricartonii’ being one are used for hedging.
Flowering hedges have to be allowed to grow to produce flowers.
If you want a tightly clipped hedge Fuchsia is not going to perform at its best.
You just clip it back to the main stems in spring and it will regrow.
But take into account that during summer it will expand quite a bit.
