Since 2018 visitors and neighbors have been encouraged to walk, drive, or bike through Buffalo’s East Side and enjoy the “East Side Garden Walk”. It is an opportunity to experience its historic neighborhoods, diverse architecture and its gardens . The Walk sparks community revitalization and beautification of the East Side.
This year the Walk was especially significant because the Polish churches: Corpus Christi, St. Stanislaus and St. Adalbert Basilica received the Lunenfeld Beautification Grant. This grant offered by Gardens Buffalo Niagara provides up to $1,500 to block clubs, neighborhood associations, and community groups for publicly accessible, street side gardening and beautification projects in the City of Buffalo. Eligible projects typically include street side planters, hanging baskets, tree planting and community gardens that are visible from the street. Since its launch in 2005 hundreds of projects have been supported, selected for their community impact and creativity. The aim is to build a more beautiful Buffalo.
With additional support from Bengert Nursery, volunteers, weeded, trimmed, planted and spruced up the gardens at the three churches. Gardeners know that this type of work is rigorous and taxing.
The volunteers who participated in this project succeeded in revitalizing the stately church gardens. We applaud and thank them for their hard work.
