Alright friends. Seeking advice.

Both of these sky pencils were planted the same day however one is essentially dead while the other is thriving. Both were watered at the same time. I am in Charlotte and it has been very warm but I struggle with the guy that planted the bush for me saying that the adjacency of the brick and concrete on 3 sides would completely cook this thing.

I’m new to this.

Thank you for your help.

Are you sure that sprinkler zone is working? Or reaching?

What is the green disk in the photo?

I would lean towards the heat being trapped in that area. That area might also be blocking any rain too, have you dug down with your finger to see if the soil is moist? One last Hail Mary…if the bait station was installed after the shrub was planted, it may have damaged the roots, but that might be a long shot.

Looks like it really close to your house, probably underneath the roof overhang. So it’s not getting much rain water. I’m guessing it’s dying because of lack of water
