This is behind our house and a few of the timbers on the top layer are starting to rot and need to be replaced. We've also noticed rock settling in the corners not sure if we should add more.
I'm worried I'll get the top layer off and have a larger job on my hands than I'm capable of completing. Also not sure if there's any upkeep I should be doing to keep them in good shape.

At this point anything beyond a total rebuild would be putting a Band-Aid on a bullet wound.
Hello Buckeye, you have a nice backyard , that work costs a pretty penny, even ten years ago. When you buy pressure treated wood, like you have, it needs help after it dries. And stains and resins help that cause. It needs two things, to keep it for a 5-10 years, pressure wash, as some of it is showing black mold, (guess) and then after it dries, spray clear stain, a color of a stain, and or a very heavy type of deck paint. (gallon or two gallon plastic spray containers).mYou have many angles to paint so that heavey paint would be laborious (this heavey paint fills in all crevices and creates a somewhat smooth surface), I would buy a small amount (gallon) as it is expensive and try a hidden area.
