A care home resident’s idea recently became the inspiration for a garden party.
The event took place at Laverstock Care Centre in Salisbury, where families, friends and members of the community gathered for a Butterflies and Blooms-themed afternoon.
A highlight of the event was the release of butterflies, which had been raised from chrysalis to adulthood by residents and staff.

The project began after a resident suggested raising butterflies during one of the care home’s regular residents’ meetings.
Erin O’Shea, manager at Laverstock Care Centre, said: “This was such a lovely event because it all started with an idea from our residents.
“Watching the butterflies emerge and then seeing them released into the garden was special for everyone.
“It was also fantastic to welcome families and members of our local community to celebrate with us.”
Guests enjoyed Pimm’s, homemade scones with jam and cream, and a variety of activities including flower arranging with the wellbeing team.
A garden-themed quiz also proved popular with children in attendance.
Site maintenance officer Marty, who helps maintain the care home’s gardens, added a special touch to the event by hiding ornamental butterflies among the flowers as a surprise for residents and guests.
