Shoppers are enhancing their outdoor space with a stylish black powder-coated trough planter, perfect for gardens, patios, balconies or front porches. Placing one or several of the planters around an outdoor area can give it a contemporary lift, especially when used to house vibrant flowers or lush foliage.
At full price, the Nicoman Galvanised Matte Black Trough Planter is £129.99, however, a special discount code brings it down to £90. Shoppers who use the code SUMMER10 at Yimbly, an ecommerce platform owned by this publication’s parent company Reach Plc, will save 10% off the existing sale price.
Currently more affordable at Yimbly than the same planter model is at Amazon and B&Q, shoppers are stating it ‘can’t be bettered’. The planter measures H40 x W80 x D30cm and is crafted from galvanised steel.
This finish is a modern take on a wooden planter, that might be better suited to those that prefer a sleek and stylish exterior rather than rustic. Another contemporary option is to go for a planter with a gradient.
At Crocus, the Textured Ombre Cube Planter is 55 × 55 × 44cm and retails for £89.99. This is a versatile shape, very durable and much lighter than it looks, according to the brand. This makes it ideal for balconies and roof terraces, where pots shouldn’t be too weighty.

Putting two planters side by side is an alternative look. Two Handmade Footed Planters in warm sand are on sale at Cox & Cox for £84 down from £140. They have a number of five star reviews with one person calling them ‘gorgeous’.
Shoppers have said similar about the Nicoman Galvanised Matte Black Trough Planter. One customer wrote: “They look stunning, ideal instead of a fence.”

While not specified online, consumers state the planter does require some assembly. This doesn’t bother everyone, but it may be an annoyance to some people as it takes time and effort.
Someone wrote: “Delighted, really impressed. Did say it came constructed, but had to do it myself, no big deal.”
Another shopper explained: “I am so happy with the planter. It looks fabulous in the garden and good quality. Really easy to put together too. Would definitely recommend.”
