Runway impacted, roads closed as fire burns near Sacramento International Airport
*** fire breaks out near Sacramento International Airport, and crews are on the scene right now working to keep those flames under control. So so far it’s burned around 150 acres. It has shut down some roads in South Sutter County near the Sacramento County line. Thanks for being with us at 5. I’m Goldston Dark. I’m Lisa Gonzalez. No structures are in danger, but that fire, it’s still spreading. This is happening at West Alberta Road and the Garden Highway. It’s about 10 minutes from the airport, and KCRA 3’s Maricela de la Cruz is at the scene. We’re standing along Garden Highway. This is where crews have set up. The road has been closed as they’re trying to battle this grass fire. You can take *** look at all that smoke right now and uh to the right, all that charred land that’s happening west of Alberta Road near Garden Highway. Crews are battling this grass fire that has grown to about 1. acres firefighters say it’s burning through light dry fuels at *** moderate rate of spread, and it has not yet been contained, but if you take *** look, I mean you can see uh that back there all that smoke where we’re seeing that is, uh, there’s *** lot of trees. The fire has forced the closure of the West Runway at Sacramento International Airport. However, airport officials have told us that all flights have been moved to the East Runway. There have been no operational issues and flights have not been impacted at this time. What is being impacted is crews have closed down part of *** Garden Highway. Again, if you take *** look here, you can see that they’ve set up here, but it is impacting traffic, um, south in South, uh, Sutter County, of course, as we get more information, we’ll get, we’ll go ahead and bring that to you for now, uh, Marisela de la Cruz, KCRE 3.
