A special moment to honor veterans in Itasca County who’ve died by suicide, with the dedication of the flag garden at First Call for Help.

A special dedication on Thursday included Ojibwe and military traditions. It was for the the Flag Garden at First Call for Help in Grand Rapids.

The garden honors veterans from Itasca County who’ve died by suicide.

One memorial stone has been placed there already, with the name of a Vietnam veteran. There is room for more, although the goal is to prevent more people from ending their lives.

You can place a stone there anytime.

The garden was the idea of the Veterans Crisis Response Team. They work specifically with veterans, and are one of only five in the nation.

If you need help, call 211 or 988. Here’s more about First Call: https://firstcall211.net/
