Gardeners, creatives and cooks are being encouraged to take part in the forthcoming Constantine Garden Society Show.
Held at Constantine Primary School on Sunday, July 26, the event will fill the classrooms with flowers, floral displays, vegetables, photographs, handicrafts and cookery exhibits.
Primary school pupils will also be showcasing their artwork, with several children’s and young people’s classes including flowers and vegetables, model animals made from fruit and vegetables, poems, artwork and sock puppets.
Residents living in properties around the centre of Constantine are invited to enter hanging baskets and scarecrows, helping to bring a burst of summer colour to the parish. These entries will be judged on Sunday, July 20, with monetary prizes for both classes provided by Constantine Parish Council.
How to enter
Entering classes is free, but entry forms must be completed and sent to the show secretary at wildes@freenetname by July 17. Brochures are available from the Spar shop in Churchtown.
On show day
Exhibits can be placed from 8am to 10.15am. Members of the public and exhibitors are invited to view the judged displays from 2pm, and can enjoy cream teas and cakes, buy raffle tickets and have a go at the coconut shy.
Entry is £2 for adults, with children admitted free.
A long-running village tradition
The Constantine Cottage Garden Society, established in 1892, has held shows most years except during the war years and Covid. Since the pandemic, entry numbers have continued to grow.
Organisers are encouraging residents to “give the show a go” – you never know, you might walk away with a trophy.
