I’ve never cared for a cactus before so I’m looking for any and every bit of advice on how to ensure my new plant thrives.

    That pot definitely doesn’t have drainage holes, which is pretty much the #1 killer of cacti. You’ll want to repot it into something with holes ASAP, using a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix.
