ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A beer garden is set to open up in Tower Grove Park in the fall of 2026.
The Tower Grove Beer Garden is a partnership between Tower Grove Park and Rockwell Beer Company and will be located behind the Piper Palm House in the park.
Tower Grove Park is a special place for Melissa Johanning.
“My hope would be that they come for Rockwell but they try to learn more about what the park has to offer and get more involved. There are a lot of volunteer opportunities in the park,” Johanning said.
Johanning comes at least once a day and expressed some concerns.
“I do love seeing this park utilized by the community as much as possible but I think what I enjoy about this park is the quiet aspect of it and the slowness that I personally experience. I worry how that might be impacted,” Johanning said.
Director of Operations Elizabeth Weis said Rockwell Beer Company has experience operating in parks.
The Rockwell Beer Garden in Francis Park has been there for about 5 years now.
“It’s really about serving that community and providing something there in the park for parkgoers so they have something to look forward to in addition to spending time in the park,” Weis said.
Weis said they are focusing on being a positive addition to the park and a place for community.
The new location in Tower Grove Park will be set up like a concession stand with outdoor seating, similar to the Francis Park location.
This will be Rockwell’s third location, with their flagship located in The Grove.
“With Francis park and then here in The Grove it kind of connects us. We felt like Tower Grove was looking for something fun and exciting that is family oriented that’s outside,” Weis said.
The new Tower Grove Park location will hope to be open year-round, weather-dependent.
Weis said not only will they serve alcohol but also new food, hydration drinks and hot drinks in the colder months.
“It’s going to be really exciting to see all of that community come together in a place with a different vibe that currently exists in that area,” Weis said.
Roger Lewis spent Tuesday afternoon at the Francis Park location with his family and newborn.
“It’s something to do for everyone. The family can come out,” Lewis said.
The expansion into Tower Grove Park will give them another place to go and enjoy outside.
“That’ll be fun. We do a lot of family things over by Tower Grove Park so that’ll be something else for us to look for and enjoy with more of our family,” Lewis said.
Weis said the beer garden also wants to partner with other small businesses, including those involved with the farmer’s market at the park.
A Bill Reininger, Executive Director of Tower Grove Park, says the beer garden will be located within the new Event Support Building, which is just east of the Piper Palm House. The Event Support Building “represents a significant investment in both visitor experience and event infrastructure while respecting the Park’s historic character.”
Reininger said the new building will also be an important trailhead for the Tower Grove Connector, strengthening connections between the Park, surrounding neighborhoods, and destinations throughout the region.
Together, these enhancements create a more welcoming and accessible experience for visitors while supporting the Park’s growing role as a regional destination. The facility is expected to open to the public later this summer.
The Director’s Croquet Garden, located north of greenhouse, creates a beautiful new gathering space that honors the Park’s long tradition of recreation and community engagement. These improvements provide new opportunities for visitors to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the Park.
We are also proud to celebrate the restoration of four historic pavilions, Lily Pond, Old Carriage, Humboldt South, and Cypress South, that are central to Tower Grove Park’s National Historic Landmark designation. These beloved landmarks have been carefully restored to preserve their architectural beauty and historic character while ensuring they continue to serve Park visitors for generations to come.

There is no set date yet for the opening of the beer garden.
