A man has died after police were called to Piccadilly Gardens over ‘concerns for his welfare’.
Officers descended on the busy area in Manchester city centre just after 8.10pm on Monday evening (July 6). Emergency crews were called following ‘reports of a concern for welfare’, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.
A forensic tent was erected beside the Ask Italian restaurant. A number of police cars were stationed at the junction between Piccadilly and Portland Street.

Police tape was seen to stretch over the pavement with officers manning the cordon. The man was taken to hospital from the scene but he sadly died.
The GMP spokesperson added that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. In a statement, the force spokesperson said: “We responded to reports of a concern for welfare on Piccadilly at around 8:12pm last night (Monday 6 July 2026).
“The man was taken to hospital for treatment and despite the best efforts of emergency services personnel, he sadly died. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”
No further details on the man have been released at this stage.
