Strathpeffer’s recent celebration of gardening event raised over £4600 for local projects and the Ross-shire based charity GoFlourish.

“It was an amazing sum for a one-day event”, said one of the StrathPetal event’s organisers, Alison Munro-White. “We were delighted so many people came along and unbelievably the dry weather held for the whole day.
“There was a real buzz in the village. The live music in the square just got everyone in the mood and our six open gardens were very busy with a broad demographic this year which is great.”

Organisers were also delighted that local plant nurseries who brought stock along reported a great day’s trading.
“We really value our local nurseries which propagate their own plants to suit the growing conditions here. It was great for people to be able to browse their stock in one central place, and we’re thrilled that they enjoyed excellent sales.”

The event, based in the village’s Spa Pavilion, hosted talks on diverse gardening topics and finished up with a popular Gardeners’ Question Time session.
“We had a different format this year because some of our garden owners asked for a year off,” explained Alison. “And it was hugely successful, but next year we hope we’ll have a good range of gardens open again and our lovely vintage bus back carrying people around the village. StrathPetal 2027 will take place on June 26 and 27 – so please save the date!
“We’re grateful for all the backing we’ve received from numerous sources since starting StrathPetal as an annual event. In particular the Mackenzie New York Villa Trust which has been stalwart in its support from the beginning.”

The £4500 raised this year will be divided between Strathpeffer Community Park; The Peffery Way; village gardening projects and Munlochy-based GoFlourish – an educational charity.
