Today is an exciting day here at Mindful Living Sanctuary as Adam from Central New York Farm Supply delivers a brand-new flail mower attachment for the Avant 860i. This S30 side-arm flail mower opens up a whole new world of property maintenance, allowing me to safely and efficiently reach areas that have always been difficult to mow.

To put it to the test, we’re heading down to the back of the property where I’ll be mowing the road borders between Upper Beaver Pond and Lower Beaver Pond. From there, we’ll tackle the swale that carries water from Pond 7 into the forest, then make our way to Pond 6 behind the solar array to clean up the pond margins and surrounding vegetation.

Maintaining the edges of ponds, swales, and access roads is an important part of managing a permaculture property, and this attachment appears to be perfectly suited for the task. Not only will it help keep the property looking its best, but it will also improve access, visibility, and long-term stewardship of the land.

Join me as we put the new flail mower through its paces and see whether this attachment lives up to expectations. If today’s results are any indication, this machine may become one of the most valuable tools in my equipment fleet here in New York—and eventually on the Tennessee property as well.

  1. We call them tree monsters down here. They have monster size flail mowers cleaning up the B roads all summer. Some even hang from helicopters!
