Bugs have been eating my new basil plant. It is in close proximity to many other plants but is the only one affected. The guy at the garden center recommended neem oil. I applied it once but was very conservative in the amount used. Does anyone know what could be causing this or a good treatment option? I do eventually want to use the leaves for seasoning so I would like to avoid applying anything that would prevent me being able to eat it!

It could be slugs. It could be caterpillars of some kind. Check the underside of leaves. If you live where a lot of slugs are, I’d sprinkle slug bait on the soil.

If it’s slugs they usually leave a slimy trail behind so look for that. Suggest you go out at night and check it too.with a flashlight.

My basil looks like this too. It’s earwigs. It’s hard to treat right now because we’ve had consistent rain. Sluggo plus works wonders! Treatments have to be done when it’s dry. Make sure it’s sluggo plus and not just sluggo.

I’ve been experiencing the same, thinking it could be earwigs

Have you tried moving the container? I know it might sound stupid

Ugh, that is so frustrating, those holes look pretty specific like maybe some kind of caterpillar or earwig. Ive been having issues with slugs in my potted strawberries, I hope you figure out what it is soon!
