The world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, naturally has welcomed one of the world’s most famous superstars, Taylor Swift on several occasions. And their ongoing relationship might become a little more special considering the Garden is the rumored venue for Swift’s upcoming wedding to NFL tight end Travis Kelce over the weekend of July Fourth (a holiday Swift loves).
Swift’s history with MSG traces back to her adolescent years. The singer-songwriter performed an unreleased song during a Knicks halftime show when she was 13 in 2003 as part of a talent competition for kids. Since then, she’s stopped by the Garden several times for occasions ranging from her own tour dates to attending Knicks games. That diversity means we’ve seen an array of looks from Swift at the arena.

Performing — and selling out — at MSG is a milestone moment for musicians, and Swift reached it for the first time on her Fearless tour, which supported her 2008 second studio album of the same name. She performed to a sold-out crowd at MSG on Aug. 27, 2009, where she dressed up in the glittering feminine and romantic fairy-tale aesthetics associated with “Fearless,” which houses tracks like “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me.” A pair of black leather knee-high boots was key to her wardrobe, accompanying looks ranging from a black and silver fringy minidress to a marching band outfit. With a riding boot aesthetic, the shoes fit in with the lingering country vibes of her early career.

Swift returned to Madison Square Garden for the “Speak Now” tour with two sold-out dates on Nov. 21 and 22 in 2011. This time, the same type of boot was still a part of her aesthetic, which featured dazzling minidresses and princess-style gowns as well; she also wore classic pumps with low heels. Some darker romantic hues were also part of the “Speak Now” story, with purple being a key color in this era. One outfit among her many tour looks was a burgundy dress with a distressed fringy skirt and leather overlays across the top, which she paired with her black boots.

Swift has also repeatedly performed at Z100’s Jingle Ball concert, which annually returns to Madison Square Garden around December. For Swift, this has meant on-theme holiday looks reflective of her various eras. For example, she took the stage in 2012, not long after the release of “Red,” wearing high-waisted red shorts, an embellished silvery top and matching glittering crystal-embellished Oxfords — all in line with the playful retro vibes of the “Red” era.

For the Grammy winner, MSG isn’t just a place to perform — it’s also a place to cheer on the New York Knicks. Her fandom for the team famously came into question just last month when she attended game four of the Knicks vs. Spurs finals series at MSG. She was decidedly rooting for the New York team in a cheeky Stevie Knicks shirt paired with dark jeans and Versace sandals, but she had just recently attended a Knicks vs. Cavaliers game with Kelce, who is notably from Ohio.
A glimpse into history proves, however, that Swift previously attended several other Knicks games at MSG, including multiple during the 2014-15 season. She wore autumnal looks including skinny pants and booties, including a striking pair stiletto pair from Christian Louboutin with edgy buckled straps and animal print.

Knowing Swift’s history with Madison Square Garden helps us understand her decision to pick it as a wedding venue — time will tell what her and Kelce’s celebrations will look like, and how she might build on her long history of looks at the world’s most famous arena.
