The Strathcona Regional District has announced plans for a third sheet of ice at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex as part of the REC-REATE Phase 2 arena improvements.
The SRD said the Strathcona Gardens Commission revisited its approach to the Phase 2 concept following significant community input.
“This is a tremendous and long-anticipated step forward for recreation in our region,” Strathcona Gardens Commission chair Susan Sinnott said. “Thank you to our community for their valuable feedback and patience, and to the dedicated SRD and city staff, whose hard work and strategic thinking brought us to this point.”
The third arena is slated to be built in the existing Strathcona Gardens parking lot.
According to a release from the regional district, the project includes an estimated 370 off-site parking stalls within Pinecrest Park and about 130 on-site stalls in the east and west parking lots.
The SRD said the project will now move into detailed design, with completion scheduled for spring 2029.
