In this video, I’ll show you one of the easiest gardening tricks ever: how to turn a single basil plant into endless basil using simple cuttings in water. No fancy setup, no rooting hormone, and no complicated propagation techniques.

You’ll also learn how to keep basil from flowering too early, why flowering makes basil taste bitter, and how to keep harvesting fresh basil all season long.

Whether you grow basil in containers, raised beds, or indoors on a windowsill, this simple method can save you money and keep you stocked with fresh basil for cooking, pesto, and more.

  1. I'm getting ready to plant today. I plan to do succession planting so I don't get overwhelmed with too much all at once.

  2. Hey I just did a video on propagating basil on my channel a couple of weeks ago! YOU BEEN WATCHIN MY CHANNEL?! 🤨

😂. I have regular sweet basil, Thai basil and upcoming cinnamon basil. I hear the flavor isn’t much different when used to cook with but when used as a tea, the flavors are very pronounced. Who knew?!

  3. The dramatic reveal, lol. Basil don't give a crap.
And the way you take the tops off is probably easier. I've been plucking flowers only, and of course, they come back so fast. Silly of me.
I struggled with them one year overwinter. Maybe I'll try a different facing window this year.

  4. You're right. Basil don't care. LOL. I have had good success with just popping the cuttings right into a pot of soil, keeping it watered and leaving it in a space with dappled shade so it doesn't get scorched by the heat of full sun. Doesn't take long until the Basil babies take root. 🙂

  5. How did i miss to NOT put it in the refrigerator? That's why it never worked for me! D'oh 🤦‍♀️ It always got dark spots 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

  6. I got a basil plant for $3 last year, it was kind of old this year so I let it go to seed and threw them in another pot, the leaves are enormous, I just picked a bunch and put it in some lasagna.

  7. I love the smell of basil. I always seem to kill mine. Suggestions? If i covered them or moved to a greenhouse type enclosure would they lady over the winter? I'm zone 8 SC

  8. The weather is so cruddy here in the uk that im actually struggling to grow basil little seedlings for 8 wks now its crazy i expected massive growth but reality not much at all .

  9. Dude, I was in a dorm in Washington DC during college and wanted to make some halfway decent food in a rice cooker since our cafeteria had rats running over our feet and maggots were in the milk drains. I got basil from Whole Foods and put the stems into a jar of water in my window and I found roots in a few days. 😂
