Camellias are an iconic shrub of the Southeast, and we’ve got some beautiful varieties to showcase. Marty DeHart is at Camellia Forest Nursery in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with David Parks, co-founder and proprietor. The Camellia japonicas bloom January into April, while Camellia sasanqua puts on a show from October thru February. We get tips on where to plant, how to plant, and desirable soil conditions for good performance.

  1. I really appreciate that you showed some in flower because they are quite beautiful. The Winter series is now on my radar to find one since most I grow are other types. I think more people should include these beauties in their landscape because Winter blooming is just such a bright spot in a dreary season. Camellias are one of my favorites so this episode was a favorite.
