The temperatures were sweltering, but that did not stop the crowds from crowding into the Royal Palace Theater, even lining the walkways in the outdoor venue. As the concert drew closer, the crowds began lining up as early as 2:30 pm for the 7 pm show. They were anxiously awaiting getting their seat for a guaranteed great show.
7:00 pm came, and Skillet took the stage. They brought energy from start to finish during the 18-song set. The crowd matched them in energy, pumping their fists and belting out the lyrics to the songs. Skillet started the night with an interesting opener for those who have seen them frequently. They opened with “Comatose” off their 2006 album by the same name.
They kept the energy high with “Feel Invincible” off their 2016 album, Unleashed. Continuing to take the audience through their extensive discography, they continued with “Rise,” “Sick of It,” and “Legendary.” They played one of their latest tracks, “Ash in the Wind,” off their most recent album, Revolution.
Skillet then slowed things down for a few songs, throwing it back to “Never Surrender” off of Awake, “Lions” from Unleashed, and “Those Nights” off Comatose. The Busch Gardens crowd then was in for a treat. They got to hear an unreleased track entitled “Scream,” set to be released later, which had only previously been heard by attendees on their recent European tour.
Never letting the energy die, Jen Ledger came out from behind the drums to join John Cooper at the front of the stage for their popular “Hero” off their album Awake. Then moving on to the heart-pounding “Not Gonna Die” off the Rise record.
Skillet left it all on the stage, bringing their set to a close with “Psycho in my Head” off of Dominion. Then the song that just surpassed four billion streams on Spotify, “Monster,” off Awake. The encore came on the music-filled night, and that song was none other than “The Resistance.” This song is a high-energy closer that engages the audience each and every time and is a classic way to end a Skillet show.
