The Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club celebrated its 100th anniversary on June 11 with a Centennial Soirée honoring a century of gardening, environmental stewardship, education, and philanthropy.
Founded in 1926 by a small group of families in the newly established community of Rancho Santa Fe, the Garden Club began with neighbors gathering in their homes to share a passion for gardens and the natural beauty of their surroundings. In 1937, the club incorporated as a nonprofit and through donations built its first clubhouse, designed by renowned architect Lilian Rice.
Over the past century, the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community while remaining rooted in its mission of horticulture, conservation, and education. Today, membership is open to everyone, offering year-round programs including garden-focused speakers, hands-on workshops, and local field trips. The club operates Bloom Again, a resale shop in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. a news release stated.
The club’s philanthropic impact has grown alongside its programming. Through its grant program, the Garden Club supports nonprofit organizations aligned with its mission and provides scholarships to MiraCosta College students pursuing horticulture-related studies. Since the program’s inception, the club has awarded more than $1.5 million to organizations making a difference throughout San Diego County, according to the news release.
The Centennial Soirée celebrated the club’s remarkable history with historical displays, floral showcases, and a gathering of members honoring the friendships and shared commitment that have sustained the organization for generations.
“Reaching our Centennial is a tremendous milestone,” said Marianne Brigham, president of the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club, in the news release. “While we celebrate our history, we are equally excited about the future and continuing to inspire generations of gardeners, conservationists, and community leaders.”
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club begins its next century dedicated to cultivating connections, sharing the joy of gardening, and strengthening the community through education and philanthropy.
