Why does the wildlife have to be so greedy? I had a similar thing happen to me one year. I was so mad.

Sorry for your loss. Groundhog? Even though they can scale fences just fine, a 3 foot fence was enough of a deterrent for me in the past. If it’s deer, that’s a different story, of course

Whatever the equivalent of groundhogs are in the UK is my bet. We had one and it took out a huge chunk of the garden insanely quickly. Only caught it on a security camera. We trapped and released it into a field by a lake. I would def recommend a security camera and fenced (metal chicken wire ) garden insanely the future. Kind of a pain to set up but worth it. Organic Pesticides too. With the amount of time/money we put into the garden it’s worth it to lock everything down. Sorry for your plant loss OP 🙁

Rabbit? I’ve found they’ll eat them when they are quite young.

This looks exactly like groundhog damage but you’re in the UK… very interesting. This is exactly what happened to me last year when I had a groundhog living under my deck.
Maybe deer? If so, I would plant something with fragrance to deter them (such as oregano) and see if it helps.
