My mini phal orchid is growing a weird…..bulge… at the base. 1st pic is the whole plant, it also has a keiki baby. The bulge is busting through and splitting an older leaf near an old dried up flower stalk at the base.
It’s in the same pot it came in but I’ve refreshed with new orchid bark recently. Its had 3 rounds of diluted fertilizer, monthly, since spring started. The “bulge“ and the keiki are growing way faster than the new leaf.
I’ve never been good at orchids, this was a gift. I think I’ve had it for a little over 1 year. It has rebloomed once. In a west facing window, indirect light. I water when the green roots turn silver and shake out the excess water. Thanks for your help!

Some of those roots look potentially rotten.
It looks like its putting out another keiki from the root base that just is oriented sideways to the main crown?
I agree with the other poster that it looks like a keiki – weird!
