Today we’re transforming our east border with a layered planting design focused on season-long color, texture, structure, and garden impact. Inspired by ideas we brought home from the Chelsea Flower Show, we’re combining shrubs, annuals, perennials, and foliage plants to create a planting scheme that will look beautiful from early summer through fall.
Along the way we’re sharing our thought process for pairing plants together, creating rhythm in the garden, layering heights, repeating colors, and designing combinations that keep the garden looking vibrant all season long.
We’re also planting up our Jensen urn with one of our favorite container recipes of the year featuring Proven Winners annuals, fragrance, pollinator-friendly blooms, and a color palette inspired by our recent trip to England.
In this video:

Do you have a favorite plant to layer in borders? The options are endless!
My wife and I recently found your channel. Beautiful garden! How do you deal with insect damage and mosquitos in the garden? This might make a great topic for a video. Thanks!
Love your content. It’s amazing what you’ve done in such a short time. Absolutely beautiful!
Great video as always
Nice sharing
Looks lovely already!
I thought I heard you say that you were going to be cutting the Thalictrum ‘Cotton Candy ‘ to the ground after it’s done blooming. Why? And have you done that before like last year? I’m not sure what you’re going to gain by doing that to that perennial. Thanks
I'm at the spot of your Jensen urn planting. The plants and colors are amazing, I love them! I've imitated your porch flowers for 2 years in a row. Unfortunately, this year, I've already planted up 90 containers, so I must not add another one. But, next year, I will have to copy this selection!
I’ve only been able to find Meteor Shower once a few years ago. I’m not sure why my nursery doesn’t have it as they’re loaded with PW. I loved it and so did the pollinators! Your garden is so lovey, I’m always in awe! Zone 3 Manitoba 🇨🇦💪❤️
I can’t wait to see all the plants in bloom! Very beautiful!
Loved your videos from Chelsea. I was so close to going this year but needed to put it off. Do you have any Let’s dance can do hydrangeas? Or Kazoo blue Spirea? I just bought both. Would like to hear your experience with them. Regarding salvia have you tried Caradonna – love it! Your garden is sooo pretty!
Yay .. My favorite people are back… ! I'm just very excited every week for new Videos. ❤🎉.. love love 💕 everything on your garden.
Eric – "This is real gardening, Christopher." Luv you two!
Question. Did you guys like your cascading hydrangeas?
Oh my goodness, this bed is going to be spectacular! Please record frequent updates so we can see how it progresses throughout the season. Well done, gentlemen.
As a mere mortal, I'll be watching your OutShine Orchid salvia and Aromance Plum Honey nemesia for next-year purposes. I'm so-so on calibrachoas (a bad aphid infestation turned me off), but that Superbells Double Mardi Gras … 💜💛💚 Thanks, guys!
Thank you for putting the names of plants on the screen.
This beautiful! I can't wait also!
Did you have someone roto till the garden or dig it up section by section?
Please tell me. Is that beautiful pink splash of color, Pink Profusion? Whatever it is, I need some! I really love all your gardens.
Great tips and inspiration. Do you cut back your annuals once planted? I didn't see that in the video but curious as to whether you think that would benefit the plants.
