I have had these pop up in my new raised beds in central Kentucky- filled partially with miracle grow raised bed soil and some local screened topsoil/compost blend.

I originally thought they were gem marigolds that were direct sown, but they've popped up in places I didn't put them. They have been growing very slowly.

All leaves on them are fern-like (I didn't notice any cotyledons when they first sprouted – the first I noticed was fern-like).

I shouldn't have any volunteers since these are brand new beds.

We might still be too early to tell, my fingers crossed for a tomato!

The red stem and leaf shape definitely indicates marigold

It looks like a mini version of the cell packs of marigolds I just planted in my pots at home.

Looks like a chenopodium to me. Oak leaf goosefoot (C. glaucum)

  5. Alao here to toss out that it’s a marigold. I could go take pictures of nearly identical in my yard.
