A pineapple may look like a single fruit, but it's actually made up of many smaller fruits that have fused together into one.

Each segment on the surface of a pineapple comes from an individual flower. As the flowers develop, their fruits merge with one another and form the pineapple we recognize.

This type of fruit is called a multiple fruit. Other examples include mulberries and jackfruit.
