It’s Jade.
Your grandma was right – looks like a jade plant (Crassula ovata) that’s been styled as a bonsai. Those thick, fleshy leaves and woody stem are classic jade characteristics, and someone put some serious work into shaping this one into teh bonsai form.
One that needs repotted.
Looks like a quite mature ripple jade!
