In celebration of National Gardening Month, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau organized a coloring contest throughout April for students in Pre-K through 4th grade. The contest featured three age categories: Pre-K to Kindergarten, 1st to 2nd Grade, and 3rd to 4th Grade. First and second place winners were selected from each category, and participation was open exclusively to children within Jefferson County.
Gwen Lange (Washington Elementary School), First Place, Pre-K-Kindergarten.
Addison Flores (Pekin Elementary School), Second Place, 1st-2nd grade.
Coloring pages were distributed to Pekin Elementary School, Pence Elementary School, and Washington Elementary School, allowing students to participate during class time. Prizes included an agriculture-themed board game, crayons, a farm-related book, and a farm-themed activity/coloring book.
Avery Young (Pekin Elementary School), Second Place, 3rd-4th grade.
We were thrilled by the overwhelming response, with approximately 305 submissions! Participation included 3 preschool entries, 61 kindergarten entries, 50 first grade entries, 101 second grade entries, 44 third grade entries, and 46 fourth grade entries.
Gabby Schafer (Washington Elementary School), Second Place, Pre-K-Kindergarten.
A sincere thank you goes out to all the students and teachers who helped make this contest a success. We also extend a special thank you to Jefferson County Farm Bureau board members Jason Steele and Courtney Burkhalter for their time in judging the entries.
