for some reason these pics went semi-viral on twitter so i thought i’d share here since i’m so proud. my partner and i have had a very successful garden year so far, after planting around march 15 (we live in southwest louisiana.) last year we tried growing sugar baby watermelons on this same fence, but they were very meh. we decided to try cantaloupes this year and started with two very puny seedlings which completely exploded in size. i finally harvested the first one last night but was so scared to cut into it after the Watermelon Failures of last year. the amazing smell coming from the stem end encouraged me… and it was the most perfect cantaloupe i’ve ever had! 8.3 lb old man cat (weegee) included for size reference because i didn’t have a banana. 🫡🏻🐱🍌

gardening in louisiana can be challenging as you get into the heat and summer pests, but it’s fun to have produce to eat in may and june. still in disbelief at how good this cantaloupe tasted! three more ripening on the vine right now! definitely going to be a garden regular from now on. πŸ“πŸˆπŸπŸ¦Ž
